Four State Qualifiers In SkillsUSA Competition

Qualifying for state in the SkillsUSA competition are Christian Wright, Michael Hubert, Dominic Neal and Matthew Murray.

Four Chester High School (CHS) students qualified for the Illinois SkillsUSA competition after qualifying in regional tests.

The contest was scheduled this week in Springfield before COVID-19 shut down schools.

Michael Hubert took first in welding at the competition held through the Career Center of Southern Illinois (CCSI). Hubert went to state last year and placed sixth.

Christian Wright placed third in maintenance and light repair.

Matthew Murray placed sixth in automotive technology.

Dominic Neal was 30th in automotive technology.

All four CHS students take vocational classes at CCSI.

SkillsUSA is a national membership association serving high school, college and middle school students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations, and for further education.
