Chester Girls Win BDC Track Title

Chester captured the Black Diamond Conference Girls’ Track Championship.

The Chester High School Girls’ Track Team won the Black Diamond Conference championship at the meet May 5 at Carmi.
Josie Kattenbraker took first in the long jump and 300 hurdles, tying teammate Lauren Soellner for first in the high jump. Kattenbraker also placed second in the 100 hurdles.
Soellner also tied for second in the triple jump.
Hannah Blechle and Jazzi Merideth finished 1-2 in the pole vault.
The 4×200 relay of Peyton Clendenin, Cami Schroeder, Ellen McCormick and Blechle took second.

Madison Kribs, 800, 3rd.

Maria Nickle, 1600, 6th; and 3200, 4th.

Camryn Luthy, 100 hurdles, 6th.

Samantha Eggemeyer, shot put, 4th.

Briley Miles, shot put, 6th; and discus, 5th.

4×100 relay, Luthy, Merideth, Blechle, Soellner, 6th.

4×400 relay, Blechle, Luthy, Clendenin, Merideth, 4th.

4 x 800 relay, Kribs, Bethany Baughman, Rylie McDonough, Josalynn Anaya, 3rd.

Chester almost didn’t have a chance to compete, as the school was originally scheduled to be on Covid lockdown through May 7. A decision was made at a school board meeting May 1 to shorten the lockdown. Students returned to classes Wednesday, allowing the students to compete.
