Kerringtyn Malley took first place in advertising in the IHSA Sectional on April 9. She is the first sectional journalism champion in the Sting’s history.
Malley will be competing at state on April 22 in Bloomington.
The video news team of Haley Hoskin, Aden McFarland and Ace Smith took fourth, narrowly missing qualification for state. The top three sectional finishers advance.
Emma Bryant took sixth place in editorial writing. Jordanna Frazer finished sixth in both review writing and editorial cartooning.
This was a very competitive year with large numbers of competitors in each category. A top six finish places at sectional, although only the top three receive medals. Top six does make the state web site, however.
