Mrs. Boyd organized a field trip, to take any student who wanted to go, to the Construction Expo in Belleville on October 25th. The Metro Construction Career Expo provides students with hands-on experiences as they participate in interactive booths staffed by representatives of the various trades.
The students who went learned more about the potential for them to have a great career in the construction trades and learn more in the construction field while avoiding college debt. Materials to be shared include wage and fringe benefit packages for varying trade careers and how you can start preparing for a future in the construction trades.
Some of the careers that were there were Boilermakers, Bricklayers, Carpenters, Cement Masons, Electricians, Iron Workers, Laborers, Operating Engineers, Painters, Plasterers, Plumbers, Pipe Fitters, Roofers, Sheet Metal Workers, and Steamfitters. For all these careers the average wage is $35/hr., plus $22/hr. in benefits. They also have very little or no college education needed.
Max Bleche, a junior who went on this field trip, got interviewed by Fox 2 News and his interview made it into the news report.
