The CHS Food Pantry is hosting a food drive next week, November 13th-16th. Some possible food items are Thanksgiving foods, Multi-Grain Bars, Gravy Packets, Canned Goods, Mashed potatoes, Poptarts, Popcorn, Peanut Butter, Jelly, Fruit Snacks, Soup, Crackers, Rice, Carel, Roman, and many other stuff.
You will give these items to your 5th-hour teacher. The 5th hour with the most canned goods will win a pizza party.
The food pantry was organized originally by former high school student Hannah Colvis and is now run by NHS offices and Mrs. Kern.
This is a place where students who don’t have a lot of food at home or get hungry during the day can go and get food.
Hannah developed this program through her involvement with the Women’s Leadership Initiative. The mission of the Initiative is to educate, inspire, and empower the generation of female leaders.
The program consists of two components: mentors and mentees. Mentors and mentees submitted information about their career field/career goals and statements about what they hoped to gain from a mentoring relationship. Mentor/mentee matches are based upon many different factors such as career interests, geographic proximity, and sometimes other factors such as similarity of personalities, shared interests, or mentorship goals. Together, Colvis and her mentor decided on a food pantry project.
She wanted her program to continue even after she graduated so she asked last year’s Junior about having NHS take it over for her and they were excited to take over.
CONGRATULATIONS TO MRS.CLENDENIN’S CLASS FOR WINNING THE CONTEST!!!!! They brought in the most items and have earned a Pizza party.
