Josh Casteel is a Senior trumpet player in CHS’s band.
He has been playing since his 5th-grade year. He stated that he joined it because, “my older sister was in band, and it became a family tradition at that point. After that, I enjoyed it and stayed.” Casteel chose the trumpet because when he was young, he believed that it would be easy due to the fact it only had 3 keys as all the others had many keys.
He was asked about his favorite part of his band career and he said, “I’ve come to really enjoy the solo and ensemble season. I used to not enjoy it, but now I can’t not do it.” Solo and ensemble season is when all members of the music department, if they choose to, can go and perform on their own or in groups. It takes a lot for all the musicians to go out and sing or play on their own in front of people.
As well as all of that, the last question was if he had to pick a different instrument, what would it be? Casteel answered, “Probably the clarinet. I’m not even sure why. As long as it’s something that isn’t brass.”
