TJ Lions and Nico DeGuzman both went to Carbondale to participate in Regionals for Poetry Out Loud. DeGuzman placed first at regional and will go on to state.

Nico won the contest by reciting two poems: “Truth,” by Gwendolyn Brooks, and “Native Title,” by Ina Carino.

State will be on March 11th, at 10 am. It is hold at Hoogland Center for the Arts in Springfield Il.

Nico DeGuzman went to Springfield, IL on March 11th, to preform at the Hoogland Center for the Arts. There has been no confirmation yet on what place Nico ended up overall, but Nico did make it past the first round, and did well in the second round!

Nico said he had a great time and was able to visit many fun places such as the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum and the Abraham Lincoln Home.
