The second annual Freshman Preview Night was held Monday, March 4th to allow current 8th graders to learn about the new experiences they will have when entering high school. Students entered at 6:20 and by 6:30, the opening presentation had begun.
Mr. Blechle opened the presentation by describing what makes high school different from grade school. He then went on to explain what makes CHS different from other high schools. Several staff members were given chances to speak on certain topics. Mrs. Cartwright discussed athletic guidelines. Mrs. Barton talked about student discipline, and Mrs. Hawkins explained scheduling and counseling. The presentation lasted around 30 minutes, and for the rest of the time, students and families could take a walk around Colbert Gym to see what high school will contain.
This year, every club, sport, and department had a table set up, totaling to 50 tables.
Each table had something to offer either with a hands-on activity or an explanation of what the group does. At the science department table, a chemical reaction was demonstrated, and at the Esports table, you could play a game of Super Smash Bros. The English teachers dressed as the witches from Hocus Pocus, and the art club table gave students an opportunity to paint.
Dozens of incoming freshmen attended the event, along with current high school students who assisted in running some of the tables. Overall, this year’s Freshman Preview Night was a complete success.
