Our Yellow Jackets made history for Chester last Friday when they beat Du Quoin for the first time in 24 years. Chester started hot by scoring 22 unanswered points in the first two quarters. Du Quoin woke up at the end of the 2nd quarter and scored two touchdowns to go into the half.
At halftime, the score was 22-14. The second half was very hard fought with the score being 29-27 with Chester still having the lead. The Yellow Jackets got an important stop on defense and went on an 83-yard drive of only rushing to extend the lead to 35–27. Du-Quoin was driving the ball with under a minute and a half left in the game. Jack Heffernan had an important pass deflection to prevent a Du Quoin touchdown, which led to the last play of regulation where Kolton Jany chased down Du Quoin’s Triston Webb, running him over to end the game. The Jackets won with a final score of 35-27.
Chester was led on offense by Senior Zain AL-Jassim. Zain threw for 208 yards, 2 touchdowns, and ran for 14 scrambling yards. Kolton ran for 69 yards with 14 attempts, with 2 touchdowns, one being a receiving touchdown. Ethan Colvis was the leading receiver with 62 yards on 2 catches, with his longest reception being 50 yards.
Senior defensive-end, Kolton Jany anchored the defense. He led the game with 9 tackles, 1 sack, 3 TFL and a recovered fumble. Tray Peters had a solid defensive presence late in the 4th quarter to seal the game. He had 5 tackles, 1 TFL, and 3 pass breakups.
