The Yellow Jackets make history again, improving to 3-0 for the first time since 2012 by defeating Freeburg Friday, September 13th.
The Jackets once again started off hot by scoring on the second play of a game on a 68-yard touchdown pass from Zain Al-Jassim to Devante Palacio. Freeburg then answered back capitalizing on a Chester turnover to tie the game 7-7. Chester then finished the half strong by scoring two touchdowns extending the lead to 21-7.
The second half was very hard fought with good defense being played by both teams including two fumble recoveries which led to both of Chester’s scores in the second half to close out the game with the final score of 31-14.
The Yellow Jackets were led offensively by the senior trio of Zain Al-Jassim, Kolton Jany, and Devante Palacio. Al-Jassim led the way at quarterback with 228 passing yards and 4 touchdown passes. Jany led the team rushing with 74 yards on the ground he added 25 receiving yards. Palacio gained 121 receiving yards and added two receiving touchdowns.
Senior Defensive Tackle, Nate Maes had a strong defensive day with 9 tackles, the most for Chester. Senior Linebacker, Gene Bicket had a good game with 8 tackles.
The Yellow Jackets continue their season when they host the Sparta Bulldogs for Homecoming on Friday, September 20th at 7:00 PM
