The Chester High School Marching Band is doing the show titled “The Eras of Taylor Swift” by Creative Marching Solutions. The show includes songs called Shake It Off, Me! And I Knew You Were Trouble.
Taylor Swift wrote and released her hit song “Shake It Off” in 2014 to combat the media’s negative remarks about her and her image as a singer/songwriter. The “song’s meaning is quite surface level about just doing your own thing and not worrying about what other people think about you. “Shake It Off” was arranged by Michael Oare and K.J. Stafford
Next within the show “Me!”; Taylor wrote and released the song “Me!” alongside Brendon Urie in 2019. It has some of the same meanings as Shake It Off, with the meaning of loving yourself and embracing who you are. It really has the message of being yourself. “Me!” was arranged by Matt Conaway and Matt Finger.
“I Knew You Were Trouble” was written in 2012 after she had just ended a frustrating relationship, with none other than Harry Styles, and she knew she could have stayed out of the trouble if she had not ignored the red flags beforehand. The overall message of the song is not listening to your gut and regretting it later. “I Knew You Were Trouble” was arranged by Tim Waters.
Mr. Colonel stated that he chose this show for the marching band because the original show was supposed to be J-Lo, but the show company had gone out of business. He said that they had to make the quick switch and some people were happy about that, and others not.
