The Chester Yellow Jackets defeated the Red Bud Musketeers 44-7 on Friday October 18th to become the conference champions of the Cahokia Conference. Chester started the game on defense and forced Red Bud to punt and then the Jackets went down the field and scored on their first drive on a double reverse pass to set the tone for the game.
The score was still close at the end of the first quarter as the Score was only 7-0 after 1 quarter. But the offense got going again in the second half when Zain Al-Jassim hit Devante Palacio for a 56 yard touchdown, to extend the lead to 14-0. Then after a good defensive stop the Jackets marched down the field ending the drive with a 12 yard pass to Brenden Malley to extend the lead to 21-0 going into the half.
The second half was more smooth sailing for the Jackets as they scored 20 more points in the third quarter extending the lead to 41-0 including a touchdown from senior lineman Alex Williamson on a lateral play. Red Bud tacked on a touchdown and Chester a field goal to come to the final score of 44-7. Sealing the 3rd conference championship for the Jackets in 3 years.
The Jackets were led on offense by Senior Quarterback Zain Al-Jassim with 275 passing yards and 3 passing touchdowns.Senior running back Kolton Jany led the team in rushing and receiving, having 63 yards rushing with 1 touchdown and 75 yards receiving as well. Senior tight end Brenden Malley also had a good receiving day with 47 yards and 2 touchdowns.
On Defense Chester was led by Devante Palacio who had 3 crucial interceptions in the first half that kept Red Bud out of the endzone. He also had 4 tackles. Leading the Jackets in tackles was Tino Rafael who had 6 tackles. Also having a solid day was defensive tackle Morgan Miers who had 2 tackles 1 TFL and 1 sack. The Jackets are back in action against Waterloo on October 26th.
