The CHS senior cheerleaders were recognized during half-time of the varsity football game! The 3 cheer seniors are Peyton Cole, Elaina Lutman, and Kourtney House!
Elaina Lutman has been in cheer for 3 years and says she joined because, “some of my upperclassmen friends that were involved in cheer encouraged me to tryout, so I did.” She also says her favorite cheer memory was going to competitions and competing her junior year, and that her favorite cheer is “Tradition.” After high school, Elaina plans to attend John A Logan college to play softball and study business and finance.
Kourtney House started cheering at 6 because she wanted to be a cheerleader for her brother and be able to cheer him on. One of her favorite memories as a cheerleader is going to state to cheer for their team. Her favorite cheer is the “Jacket Power” cheer, and when she leaves high school she wants to go into a college and go into the field of nursing.
Peyton Cole has been in cheer for since the age of 3. Peyton Cole says, “Since I was young, I am not 100% sure as to why I joined, but I do know why I continue to do so. Cheer is not only such a fun extracurricular, but it’s a sport as well. Yeah, it’s controversial believe whatever but Cheer for me is something that has made every other worry I had in the world stop. When I am cheering, I’m not thinking about anything else besides performing my best. You get to cheer on your peers and your school, make new friends, have fun, all while being in uniform! I can’t find a specific word to explain it, cheer has just became part of me.” She says her favorite memory from cheer is going to state and competing in Springfield, as they got to go out to eat, and spend the night in a hotel after carpooling all the way there. She wishes that she was able to experience that with the friends this cheer season has given her. She’s thankful for the entire opportunity. She says her favorite cheer is doing “Hello” with the opponents cheer team. She really likes that people throw in some sassiness. When Peyton Cole leaves high school, she plans on being a nurse and hopefully making a difference in the world.
Even though we only have 3 senior cheerleaders, they’re all very kind and will be missed when they leave. I hope that when they leave, they will remember their years in cheer, and being in the high school with all their friends, and I hope they have a successful life outside of the high school when they leave.
