A varsity football game was held to showcase seniors from all fall sports on October, 18.
There were thirteen football seniors all together, Nate Maes, Alex Williamson, Zain Al-Jassim, Lannin Caron, Jack Heffernan, Cayden Brunkhorst, Kolton Jany, Brenden Malley, Gene Bicket, Lincon Schroader, Devante Palacie, Tino Rafael, and Justin Hayman!
We were able to ask five football seniors some questions about their football career and their plans after high school.
Our first senior is Nate Maes! Nate has been doing football for five years and says the reason he joined was because his friends recruited him to join. He states that his favorite memory was beating Du Quoin this year! He also says that if you want to try out for the football team, then just do it because it’s worth it. After graduation, Nate wishes to get into college ball and go from there!
Next up is Alex Williamson, who has been a part of the football team for four years, and says he decided to play because he enjoyed the weight room. His favorite memory was also beating Du Quoin at this year’s game too! He also says that if you want to join the team then you should just do it, regardless of how hard it is. Alex wishes to become and electrician after graduation.
Our next football senior is Zain Al-Jassim who’s done football for over ten years now! The sole reason he joined the team was because his mom simply signed him up. Zain’s favorite memory during football was wrestling on the back of the bus his sophomore year. His suggestion for wanting to join the team is once again to just do it, because it’s fun! Once he graduates, he wants to play college football!
Lannin Caron is the next football player, and has been doing the sport for four years now! His reason for joining the team was because all of his friends were doing it and he decided to do it with them. Lannin’s favorite memory was beating Red Bud his senior year. His advice to anyone wanting to join the team is to “go out there and give it everything you have!” After high school, Lannin is going to work at the Menard Correctional Center!
Our last interviewee is Jack Heffernan! He’s been doing football for four years now and decided to join because he wanted to play a sport with his friends that wasn’t easy. His favorite memory was the 7v7s in Carbondale! He says that if you want to try out for the team, that it’s not easy but definitely worth it! Jack plans to go to college at University of Illinois!
Congrats to all of the football players on their amazing season this year! And to all the seniors, we wish you the best after graduation!
