Saturday November 2nd the Chester Yellow Jackets defeated the Westville Tigers 40-35. For the first time in the year the Yellowjackets did not start off hot. The first drive of the game Westville scored a touchdown. But instead of getting frustrated Chester fought back and scored back-to-back touchdowns to go up 13-7. Westville would not go away, and they scored on their next drive to go up 14-13.
The Yellowjacket offense was rolling as on their next drive they scored again and then got the two-point conversion to go up 21-14. The struggling defense finally made a play when Junior Ethan Colvis jumped in front of a Westville pass and took it to the house for a pick 6 to go up 28-14. Westville’s scrappy offense wouldn’t go away, and they scored on their next offensive drive making the score 28-21. Chesters’s offense made up for the defensive’s struggle and scored on a 61-yard run from Tray Peters to go into the half up two scores on Westville. The Yellowjackets had the ball at half, and they scored quickly again to make the score 40-21. Many would think that would seal the game, but the tigers would not go away. They scored two unanswered touchdowns to make the score 40-35 and they had the ball on Chester’s territory trying to score again in the 4th quarter. The defense made a big stop on 4th down to seal the win for Chester.
On Offense Chester was led on offense by Senior Quarterback Zain Al-Jassim who had 184 passing touchdowns and 2 passing touchdowns. Senior Devante Palacio led the team in receiving yards with 59 yards and a touchdown catch. Junior Tray Peters led the team in rushing with 90 yards and two touchdown runs.
Defensively the Jackets struggled but there were still multiple players who made big plays for the team. Junior Ethan Colvis had a great day for the Jackets as he had 13 tackles, and he had a pick 6. Senior Alex Williamson also had a good day. With 5 tackles including 2 Tackles for a loss. This is the first playoff win for the Yellowjackets since 2018. The Jackets move on to play @ Maroa Forsyth on November 9th for the second round.
