On Monday, December 9 at 6:30 P.M., the Chester High School Music Department held their annual Christmas Concert in Colbert Gym. The three music groups that preformed were Sound Affect, Concert Choir, and Concert Band.
Mr. Colonel started off the concert by welcoming the audience and giving a brief explanation of each group. Then he allowed Sound Affect to take the stage and begin their four song routine. They started off singing “A Holiday Jazz Trio,” which included the songs, “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!,” “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” and “Jingle Bell Rock.” In “Jingle Bell Rock,” Bentley Valleroy was given a Tenor solo. The Sound Affect ended their routine by performing “Twas the Night Before Christmas,” which has beginning speaking solos from Jason Sibley, Ary Shipley, Bentley Valleroy, and Megan Zimmer.
Once the Sound Affect was finished, it was time for Concert Choir to perform all three of their pieces. The Concert Choir began with “Do You Hear What I Hear?” and followed that up with “The First Noel.” They then ended their performance with “Please Come Home for Christmas,” which has a beginning solo from Summer Valleroy.
Afterwards, Mr. Colonel had the seniors make their way to the front to begin collecting donations for the food drive, which is a tradition he has done for years now. $741.00 was collected from the audience.
Once that was finished, the CHS Concert Band began their performance with “Christmas Vacation,” which was the theme song from the famous Christmas film titled, “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.” The band then played “Silent Night,” which had a flute solo from Anna Menefee and a trumpet solo from Kendall Nanney. After that, the band played “Ukrainian Bell Carol.” Then the three drum majors, Addy Gottschammer, Jaden Lopez, and Will Welge, all presented Mr. Colonel with his Christmas present which consisted of vacation themed Jibbitz which are little charms that go on Crocs, which are shoes that Mr. Colonel wears often, then it was sunscreen and aloe vera gel, a bucket hat that had music notes all over it, and custom made swimming trunks that had the “Band Geek” logo printed all over it. The band finished off the concert with the one song they play every year, “Sleigh Ride.”
