Señora Zeiger was nominated to be the Teacher of the Month for January! She was asked five questions, and here are her responses:
1. You teach all of the Spanish classes, what is your favorite part about teaching the language and culture?
- My favorite part of my job is interacting with my students. I laugh every single day which makes for a comfortable class atmosphere. I am also impressed with my students this year. They are so hard-working and courteous.
2. How do you feel about the Spanish Club this year? What has been your favorite activity the club has done so far?
- Spanish Club has been great this year. The Hispanic festival was so much fun even though it was so hot that day. I am looking forward to World Languages and Cultures Day at SIU-C in February. I have taken students every year that they’ve had this event. I am disappointed that we were not able to attend the dance performances in St. Louis. Both the fall and spring performances were scheduled for days we were off school.
3. This is your last year teaching at CHS before retirement, what will you miss the most? What are you most excited about entering retirement?
- What I will miss the most is my students and fellow teachers. I will not miss getting up at 5:00 a.m. each day and spending the better part of each weekend grading, recording and planning. I am excited to travel. I still have 5 Spanish-speaking countries left to visit.
4. You mention you have a wonderful cat, what is the best part about being a pet owner?
- I love my cat. She always waits in the window for me to come in the house after school. She snuggles with me on the couch in the evenings. Whenever I try to grade papers or do work on my Chromebook she tries to get on my lap. She wants me to only pay attention to her.
5. And finally, what motivates you to wake up in the morning and continue to work here at Chester High School?
- I love my job here. I have great students and the teachers and administration are so dedicated. I’ve worked in 2 other districts and Chester is the best by far.
Thank you Señora Zeiger for taking the time to answer my questions!
