Savannah Heathington was the winner of the January CHS Poem of The Month competition. She is a freshman at CHS, and said she likes to write, “not just poetry though, writing in general.” Savannah also likes to “read, listen to music, and do arts and crafts.”
The theme for January’s challenge was “beginnings.”
When the Fire Hits
How do you start over
When everything is broken
When it’s all done
When everything came crashing down
The second you thought you won
When everything was in place
Without a crack
With what you thought was a fact
How happy it was
Until the end
How do you begin from the very end
How do you rise from rock bottom
You wish it didn’t take much longer
That you could keep your head above the fire
So that when your out you can tell your story like a book
Read the pages
Read the hook
You can’t have a beginning without an end
Like in every book
In every poem
And in every movie
The end is just a new beginning
A chance to rise
Like a phoenix in disguise
