The Senior Night for most sports and activities was held on Tuesday, February 18 at a boys basketball game. During the night, senior members of the CHS Dance Team were recognized for their commitment and dedication to their sport. The following are the senior members; Mirra Krieg, Whitney Sulser, Tia Martinez, and Summer Valleroy. We asked each senior to answer a few questions about their time as a CHS Dancer.
The first dancer to be recognized was Mirra Krieg. When asked what singer she likes dancing to the most, Mira said, “During the basketball season, we performed a halftime routine to a ‘Rihanna mix.’ Out of all the pop songs we performed to during our season, this would have to be the most fun.” When asked how she felt about going and competing in competitions. She said “I love competitions!! They are what our team prepares for all year, and they are super exciting. I was most excited for our state competition in Springfield. I had some nerves of course, but truthfully I was far more excited to perform than I was scared. I enjoyed every bit of performing at this competition, and I was very thankful for the opportunity.” When we asked Mirra if she felt like she had grown as a dancer since she started, she replied with “Yes. Between my freshman year and now, I have learned many new skills, and I have learned certain things along the way that help me to become a better dancer over time.” Lastly when asked what her favorite themed practice was, she said “My junior year, we had ‘dress like a dude’ practice, and it was very funny. Nearly everyone participated…and we went all out.” Thank you Mirra for these great responses!
The next dancer to be recognized was Whitney Sulser. When asked what singer she likes dancing to the most, Whitney stated, “I think this season my favorite artist that we danced to was the Rihanna mix that we danced to during basketball season.” When we asked her how she felt about competitions, she said, “I was super excited that we competed as well as we did this season. It is always nerve racking to compete in-front of an audience, especially the audience at state. But nothing compares to how much fun it is.” When asked if she felt as though she has grown as a dancer over her years at CHS, She replied with, “Yes, I think my turns, flexibility and jumps have improved. I finally got my splits after about 2 years of trying and I can now do a La Second Turns. I also think dance has helped me grow as a person. It has made me a better teammate and helped me grow my leadership skills.” Lastly, when asked what her favorite themed practice was, she responded with, “My favorite was when we did ‘dress as your coach night.’ That night I decided to dress as our assistant coach, Emily Eggemeyer. I wore leggings, a shackled t- shirt and ugg slippers.” These are amazing answers, Whitney!
The last dancer to be recognized was Summer Valleroy. When asked what singer she likes dancing to the most, she answered with, “My favorite singer to dance to was Rihanna, since I do like her music and it just gives an upbeat vibe to everyone on the team.” When asked how she felt about competitions, Summer said, “I was excited, not only because it was my last year, but also because I got to dance with my cousin for a year. It was exciting to stay in a hotel with all of my teammates, and create new memories.” When we asked her if she feels like she has grown as a dancer, she replied with, “Yes, I think I’ve become much more comfortable than I was when I was just starting out, and started being more confident myself as the years go on.” Lastly, when asked what her favorite themed practice was, Summer said, “My favorite time was last year’s theme, ‘Dress as a boy’. I think it was really fun to see how creative everyone was, and it was funny to see everyone dance while looking like full grown men.” We loved these responses Summer!
We would like to thank the seniors of the CHS Dance Team for their dedication and commitment to their sport through their high school career. Good luck in your future, and CHS will truly miss you!
