Nico DeGuzman’s poem “fallen” has taken the second-place title for March’s round of the CHS Poem of the Month!
Nico De Guzman is an artist in both visual and written forms, and his work ranges from sketches to poetry. He has been published in Under the Madness Magazine, The Dribble Drabble Review, Elan Magazine, and Voyage of Verse. After he graduates, he plans to major in creative writing.

fallen
I’ll confess it;
the arrow in my throat
didn’t hurt as much
as you’d expected.
The rose bloomed
from my neck painlessly,
reaching toward
the hands that planted it.
Petals fell in drops
and bounced against
midnight soil.
You stood in front
of me with the bow still
in your hands—
But were they shaking
from the regret
or the adrenaline?
My blood seared like
acid into the dirt.
