CHS Seniors Rylie Conley, Jack Heffernan, and Whitney Sulser attended Terri Bryant’s Youth Advisory Council meeting on March 19 at the Capitol in Springfield. While at the capitol, they got to sit on the senate floor, walk throughout parts of the capitol building, and participate in a mock committee meeting with other high schoolers that attended. This was a busy day at the capitol because the Representatives were trying to pass many bills. Specifically HB2827, which was a bill that covered homeschooling and the restrictions on it. Because of this the lobby of the capitol building was packed with people that were waiting for these results. The bill that the committee discussed during the mock meeting was on if helmets should be mandatory for motorcyclists. By the end of the meeting the vote was no to pass the bill (5-4).
