CHS Boys’ track won the open Red Bud Invitational as a team on Tuesday, March 25th.
It was a dominant performance by the team, and they won with a score of 111 points. They defeated 13 other teams, including second-place Okawville, who had 86 points. It was a combined team effort, but there were some standouts that helped the team get first place.
In the running events, Chester had a solid day. In the open 100M, Junior Derrius Shoemate, placed 4th in the meet with a time of 12.0. In the Open 200M, Freshman Donnie Sabo placed 4th with a time of 25.0. In the 800M, Junior Gabe Coffman placed 1st with a time of 2:11.6. Senior Lannin Caron had a great day in both the 110M Hurdles and the 300M Hurdles, getting 2nd in both events, running 19.1 and 46.3. The 4X200M Relay got 3rd place with a time of 1:40.9. The 4X400M Relay got 2nd place in the event with a time of 3:58.2
Chester also did well in the field events. Senior Alex Williamson placed 3rd with a throw of 37.3 feet. Junior Gabe Coffman placed 2nd in the high jump, clearing 5’8”. Chester had two athletes place in the long jump: freshman Danny Worly jumped 20.4 feet, earning 3rd place, and senior Cayden Brunkhorst jumped 19.85 feet, earning 5th place. Chester also had two placements in the triple jump when Cayden Brunkhorst won the event with a jump of 39.55 feet and Gabe Coffman got 4th with a jump of 36.7 feet.
