Mrs. Hammel’s 4th hour Novels class worked on a project, April 7th – 11th, where they could pick any book that they enjoyed to paint the cover design onto a brick. Mrs. Hammel calls these our “Book Bricks”.
She brought in a brick for each student in the class, then spray painted them white so that they could paint on them. The requirements were that it had to of course look like the original book cover, have the author, title, pages on the sides, and your name somewhere on it. These students had so much fun painting their bricks while also listening to musical soundtracks and looking at past yearbooks that were stored in the lab. Once the class finished their bricks, everyone signed the back of each others bricks as a way to remember our 2024′-25′ Novels class. They then took them outside so they could do a spray coat of sealant as well as take pictures.
As this is the last year of novels class, we are trying to make it as fun as possible. We will dearly miss this class as well as Mrs. Hammel. She has opened up reading for all of us and made it truly more enjoyable in many different ways. A quote Mrs Hammel loves, “ I don’t believe in the kind of magic in my books. But I do believe something very magical can happen when you read a good book.” – J.K. Rowling. We hope to keep her love for reading alive even after she leaves CHS. She has truly made an impact that will never be forgotten.
