While talking with friends over this review series, the idea came up to do a few nostalgia weeks with movies recommended from different seniors’ childhoods. With that being said, the first Senior Childhood Movie is mine!
My favorite childhood movie is the 2003 version of Peter Pan directed by P.J. Hogan. When this movie was released, it performed poorly, competing against The Lord of the Rings and Cheaper by the Dozen. My parents took my older sister to watch it, and she loved it so much that they bought the DVD. Years later, when I eventually found the DVD, I fell instantly in love with the movie.
The acting in this movie, along with its true nature of the original story of Peter Pan and special effects, make it one of, if not the best versions of Peter Pan there is. The fun, childish, and spunky nature of the boys can make you laugh, while the adultness of Wendy and her brothers tends to be more relatable the older you get. This movie does have some out-of-date themes, so I do warn those who choose to watch this movie to be aware of them. That being said, if you look past those moments, you will find a very enjoyable movie to share for generations.
Because of those reasons, I rate this movie a 9/10, and would definitely rewatch this movie again.
