Album #1: Addison by Addison Rae
Favorite Song: “High Fashion”
Notes: If I am being completely honest, I did not have the highest of hopes for this album, as her style did not seem like something I would enjoy at all. That being said, I actually really enjoyed this! Addison Rae’s musical choices gave me the same vibe as other artists like Charlie XCX, Kim Petras, and a dash of Lorde’s more dance-like music. Addison Rae sings about her experiences of love, family, and instant rise of fame in the music industry. It’s so interesting listening to this music, as you wouldn’t typically expect this from someone like her. I would definitely listen to this album again!
Album #2: Wishbone by Conan Gray
Favorite Song: “Nauseous”
Notes: This album truly makes me speechless, I mean it’s actually amazing! I’ll try my hardest to put my thoughts into words, and give this album a review that does it justice. Wishbone’s main subject is the idea of heartbreak, especially when it’s not the typical relationship. It shows Conan Gray’s grief and how the simplest of things can remind you of some of the darkest times in your past. The lyrics, instrumentals, and emotion that’s put into this is just amazing! This album doesn’t remind me of losing a partner, but it definitely reminds me of losing a friend. That is something almost everyone can relate to, so I’m sure this album would get you in your feelings, just like it did for me. This absolute beauty of an album gets a perfect ten out of ten rating from me! When I finished this album, all I could think about was just “wow…,” so that essentially says everything you need to know.
Album #3: Hyperyouth by Joey Valence & Brae
Favorite Song: “Disco Tomorrow”
Notes: Hyperyouth really proves why it’s called so. This is due to so many of the songs being club music that’s up beat and “hyper,” meanwhile the “youth” half is so significant with callbacks to children’s shows, family, and finally accepting the fact that you’ll never be the kid you once were. One of my favorite parts of the album is that they constantly use voice lines from the children’s show Adventure Time, which really shows off how important one’s childhood is, especially the media they consume. The intricate details woven into so many of these songs are just amazing, and I love that one of the biggest components of the album is that you don’t need money or fame to live a good life, you just need at least one amazing friend that will always be by your side. This album is so interesting, and I highly recommend it, especially if you are a sentimental person.
