Album #1: I Barely Know Her by Sombr
Favorite Song: “Canal Street”
Notes: I’m a relatively new fan of Sombr, so I was very excited to hear his new music so I can get a better understanding of him as an artist. That being said, this album is phenomenal. I loved hearing how emotional Sombr was able to get in his music, as he didn’t hold back at all. It’s definitely a struggle finding a new artist who is able to be their true self. The way Sombr looks back at past relationships and is able to learn throughout the album that he isn’t defined by these ideas of love, and that he doesn’t have to be stuck in the past, but instead you can look towards the future just really seals the deal for me that makes this one of the best albums this year.
Album #2: A Matter of Time (Standard Edition) by Laufey
Favorite Song: “Snow White”
Notes: When I tell you that I was so insanely excited to finally listen to Laufey’s newest album, I mean it! This was exactly what I expected, I truly love it so much. Laufey’s views on relationships, self-sabotage, and your own personal image, especially as a woman, really speaks to me on a personal level. Parts of this album reminds me a lot of other albums like the previous one, I Barely Know Her by Sombr, and an album I reviewed last week titled Wishbone by Conan Gray. I really respect the raw emotions Laufey was able to give her album, and the more orchestral vibe the instrumentals had was just gorgeous. I absolutely adore this album, and give it a perfect ten out of ten score!
Album #3: Man’s Best Friend by Sabrina Carpenter
Favorite Song: “Nobody’s Son”
Notes: Man’s Best Friend is the newest release by Sabrina Carpenter, following the instant hit that was her previous album, Short n’ Sweet, so Carpenter definitely has big shoes to fill with this new one. Sabrina Carpenter absolutely delivered with this album, and although she wrote about some of the same topics, the musical choices she made with this one is drastically different. She went for a more 80s vibe with a slight country touch with some of the instrumentals, and it seems like she was inspired by artists like Chappell Roan and Taylor Swift. This album is also an instant hit, and there’s definitely a song for everyone on here.
