We have some new teachers and staff here at CHS! In order to introduce these teachers so we know a little more about them, they were asked to answer a couple questions about themselves. Mr. Strauss is the new PE teacher here at CHS! He is from a small town called Warrenton, Missouri. He studied for his bachelor’s at SEMO, where he played 4 years of college football. Before coming to CHS, he taught in Cape Girardeau at Cape Junior High School, then the year before that, he taught at the Clopton School District in Eolia, Missouri. He teaches PE because he has always been a sports guy, and PE was his favorite subject throughout his school years; he felt it was the best path for him. Plus, he gets to share that love for sports with the kids he has in class. He hopes to make students better people from the time they first walk through the door at the beginning of the year to the last time they walk out of it on the last day of their HS careers. Strauss says, “Even if it is a small thing, I knew I had a part in shaping them to be a better person.”. He wants to coach athletes to become the best versions of themselves and push them to strive for heights they didn’t think were possible. On the other hand, outside of school, he likes to spend time with his friends and family, fish, watch sports, go hunting, and, of course, love coaching football.
Mrs. Miesner is the new Student Services director here at CHS! She went to Eastern Illinois University for her bachelor’s degree and SIUE for her masters. She taught math for 20 years at Red Bud Elementary. Mrs Miesner is very excited to be here at CHS and get to know students. Her goal is to help students set and achieve their goals not only in high school but their future as well. Outside of school she loves to spend time with her family, read, and play golf. She also enjoys playing harmless pranks on her kids and friends.
Mr. Rueling is the new US History and American Government teacher! He is very passionate about the subject he teaches because he has always liked to ask why things are the way they are and history holds all the answers. This is his first year of teaching! He went to John A Logan, SIUC, SEMO, and Southern New Hampshire University. Besides teaching history, he is helping to coach football and hopefully baseball. In the past, he was a captain in the Illinois Air National Guard as an Intelligence Officer. As an Intelligence officer he was responsible for gathering intelligence to support air operations. This includes knowing our adversaries intent, location, size, etc. This information helps us keep the US Armed Forces out of danger;s way and also allows us to target our adversaries to eliminate any threats to US forces. In the future, Mr Rueling hopes to inspire a desire to appreciate history in his students. He wants people to know that there is a subject of history that they will find interesting. Mr Rueling loves Chester, sports, trivia, and loves to laugh!
Mrs. Childs is the new ESL teacher here at CHS! She has been an ESL teacher for over 20 years. She is from Guatemala and came to the US about 1- years ago. SHe loves teaching ESL?Spanish because she believes that learning a new language opens up new doors to new experiences and cultures different from our own. It allows us to get a broader and better perspective of our world! Her hope is that every student can get motivated to learn a new language and master it! Learning a new language can be very beneficial and open up lots of opportunities, it can open up opportunities and help to start a future career. Outside of school, Mrs Childs loves to paint, craft, read, journal, take walks in nature, and she also has a laser engraver! She is so glad to be a part of our CHS staff this year and wishes all students a wonderful school year!!
Mr. Tullis is the new English teacher here at CHS! He graduated from SIUE with a bachelor’s degree. He grew up in Fairfield IL and previously taught at Civic Memorial High School in Bethalto IL. He’s very passionate about media literacy and fears misinformation in the world. Along with media literacy comes the love for reading and writing, he believes that everyone should read books and write daily. Mr Tullis hopes to be a positive role model to his students and be a smiling face in their lives. He would also love to teach some social science classes, namely Sociology. Outside of school he loves to read and write. He also claims to be a big nerd, recently he has gotten into Warhammer 40K, he mainly enjoys Dungeons and Dragons, Magic the Gathering, and other nerdy things. Besides that though he has come to love NFL football! Go Bills!
Ms. Kim is the new Para here at CHS! She attended SWIC in the Early Childhood Education program and received an Associates degree in2008 then obtained her Paraprofessional license shortly after. She was working as a preschool teacher at Discovery Youth Center while attending SWIC for 4 years. SHe left education for a while to pursue a career in healthcare as a Certified Medical Assistant where she stayed for 15 years. Ms Kim’s passion has always been working with children and people with intellectual disabilities. She worked at The Human Service Center (Comwell) at the day training program in Red Bud as a Training educator for several years. Right now, Ms Kim works with Nelvin in the Special Education Program trying to make a difference in his life as well as other students in the classroom and the student body here in CHS. Ms Kim was born and raised in Chester as well as attended CHS in the 80’s. She lives in the home she was raised in with her husband, two goldendoodles, and one himalayan. She has three grown daughters, a son in law, six grandsons, and one granddaughter. In her spare time, Ms Kim and her husband ride their Harley, take their boat to the lake, and occasionally go mountain biking. Ms Kim is very excited to be here at CHS and looks forward to the years coming!
Mrs. Teoxon is the new Special Education teacher here at CHS! SHe is married to Rick Texson and had seven children. As a mother of seven, she loves spending time with her family more than other social activities. She is originally from the Philippines and is so excited to be here at CHS! SHe taught in the Philippines for 18 years, five years as a volunteer teacher and thirteen years as a public school teacher. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Naga College Foundation and her masters degree in Special Education from the university of Nueva Caceres which are both in the Philippines. In her home country, she served as an inclusive teacher with a strong focus on Reading and English instruction. She chose the field of Special Education because it has always been close to her heart. She holds a deep compassion for children, especially those with disabilities and was humbled to be recognized as an Outstanding teacher in her region. One of Mrs Teoxon’s reasons for coming to the United States was to continue developing herself professionally. She is eager to learn from the excellent education; system here, and hopes to develop a school of her own dedicated to serving children with disabilities.
Ms. Evangelista is the new Special Education teacher here at CHS! She previously taught at Consolacion National High School, a public school in the Philippines and earned her college degree at Cebu Normal University. Throughout her teaching career, science has always been her favorite subject because it not only feeds her curiosity but students as well as helping them to understand the world around us. She hopes to grow her professional career and develop her skills teaching here in the US. She is also very excited to share her culture plus learn more about ours! Outside of school, Ms Evangelista enjoys spending time with family, relatives, friends and exploring new places!
