Chester welcomed the Dupo Tigers for their Homecoming game on Friday October 10th. Both teams flashed impressive records, Chester with a 5-1 record, and Dupo 6-0. The winner of this game would earn a shot at being the outright conference champions.
Starting the game, Chester took an early 21-0 lead but just before the half, Dupo showed signs of life scoring and putting themselves on the board. Coming out of the half, both teams traded scores, but Dupo managed to claw their way back into the game. Scoring with less than 2 seconds left in the game making it 38-37, it came down to a 2-point conversion which was blocked by Tray Peters, resulting in Chester winning the game.
The Chester offense was led passing by Senior Tray Peters, who passed for 205 yards and scored 3 touchdowns. On the receiving end, Junior TaShawn Palacio led the team with 153 yards and a touchdown, along with Junior Trey McCartney with 54 yards and 2 touchdowns, and Junior Zane Eggemeyer with 32 yards and a touchdown. Rushing was led by Senior Ethan Colvis who rushed for 138 yards, and Peters added 37 with a touchdown.
On defense, Senior Morgan Miers led the team in tackles with 10 tackles, 2 for a loss, and 2 sacks. Junior Kanon Jany also added 7, with a sack and a tackle for a loss. There were 3 interceptions in the game, 2 by Peters, and 1 by Senior Derrius Shoemate.
The Jackets now take on the 1-6 Red Bud Musketeers on Friday, October 17th. A win will make them outright conference champions.
