Hello, my name is Brodie Mattingly, I’ve spent most of my life here in Chester Illinois, I grew up with most of you throughout kindergarten. I’m not a particularly great author, but I do try. I wrote this poem after one of my online friend groups suddenly exploded, and I couldn’t do anything about it. Despite how bad I felt at the time, it kept moving, and moving, and I still had to get up the next day.
Tomorrow Still Came
I was born, Kicking and screaming, wailing all the while
And tomorrow still came
When I was 7 my parents got into a fight, and one thing led to another,
and I was driven away, wailing all the while
And tomorrow still came
When I was 13 I got into a fight with my friends, and I was isolated,
alone with no one, wailing all the while
And tomorrow still came
When I was 15 I hurt myself, badly, wailing all the while
And tomorrow still came.
No matter what I do
No matter how much I try to stop it,
And no matter how much I cry
Tomorrow still comes
