Chester Beats Sparta In Tournament

The Chester Yellow Jackets won the seventh place game in the Murphysboro-Trico tournament, beating Sparta 53-46 on Dec. 4.

Gavin Schroeder led Chester with 15 points. Jared Landeros and Chance Mott were also in double figures with 14 points each. Lucas Thompson scored six points. Aiden Jany and Trace Fricke had two points each.

Landeros was named to the all-tournament team.

Chester went 0-3 in pool play.

The Yellow Jackets opened play on Nov. 29 in the Murphysboro-Trico tournament with a 62-35 loss to Murphysboro.

Mott led Chester with 12 points. Fricke scored seven points, Landeros six and Cooper Eggemeyer five. Schroeder scored three points and Evan Bland two.

The Jackets lost to Harrisburg 48-44 on Dec. 1.

Landeros led Chester with 19 points. Mott scored seven, Thompson six, Fricke five, Ethan Stumpe four and Schroeder three.

The Jackets closed pool play with a 54-43 loss to Lovejoy on Dec. 3.

The Jackets returned to Colbert Gym and launched the Toledo Era with a 46-39 win over Anna-Jonesboro Nov. 23

A large crowd attended the game, the first played to the public in over a year. Remote rules restricted crowds during the 2020-21 season. It was also the first game for Coach Chris Toledo, who took over the Chester boys’ program from Brad Norman.

Jared Landeros led Chester with 20 points and Chance Mott scored 14. Gavin Schroeder scored six points and Trace Fricke four. Aiden Jany netted two points.

Chester lost to Pinckneyville 60-24 on Nov. 24.

Schroeder and Jacob Handel led Chester with six points each. Cooper Eggemeyer and Fricke scored four points each. Gabriel Steele scored three points and Mott one.
