Jarrett James qualified for this week’s state golf tournament after shooting 73 at the sectional in Effingham.
The Chester sophomore finished second, a stroke back of the winner. At state, James shot an 83 to tie for 29th. Inclement weather caused first-day results to be wiped out.
Chester just missed advancing to the golf sectional as a team, but three Yellow Jackets played in the sectional at Effingham.
The three members of the Chester Yellow Jacket boys golf team who advanced to the sectional round from the Trico Regional regional were Sophomore Jarrett James, who posted a 77; Junior Chett Andrews, who finished with a score of 86; and Sophomore Jaden Mott, who carded an 89.
The top three teams advance to the sectional. West Frankfort won the regional with a team score of 332 followed by Trico (343) and Anna Jonesboro (346).
