Herrin Edges Lady Jackets

The Chester Lady Yellow Jackets Softball Team traveled to Herrin on Friday, March 17th for a non-conference game. Chester lost 2-1, moving them to a 1-2 record.
The Lady Jackets were in a pitching duel with Herrin, having only three total runs scored in the game. Emma Eggemeyer pitched six innings for the Jackets, giving up four hits and two unearned runs, with eight strikeouts.
The hitting was there for the Jackets, but the runs were hard to come by. The Jackets tallied four more hits than Herrin. Elaina Lutman, Camryn Luthy, Lexie Mott, Camryn Wolff, and Kourtney House all registered a hit. Camryn Wolff and Kourtney House each had a double. Kourtney House scored the only run for the Jackets thanks to an RBI from Kinsli McCartney.
The Lady Jackets will play again at home against Steeleville on Monday, March 20th.
The Lady Jackets hosted the Du Quoin Indians at home on March 13 in their first game of the season. The Lady Jackets won 14-5.
Chester started off hot, scoring three runs in the first inning. This hitting continued throughout the game, including a five-run inning to help stretch the lead from four to nine in the sixth inning.
Emma Eggemeyer pitched a solid seven innings for the Jackets, giving up eight hits and three earned runs, with eleven strike-outs and only two walks. She also had two hits and an RBI.
Nine of the 11 Chester girls had a hit, including Elaina Lutman, Camryn Luthy, Alexis Eggemeyer, Emma Eggemeyer, Lexie Mott, Camryn Wolff, Kinsli McCartney, Kourtney House, and Whitney Sulser. Lexi Mott led the team in RBIs (Runs Batted In) and hits, going three for four with 3 RBIs.
Luthy had two doubles and two RBIs. Lutman had a double, single, RBI and five stolen bases. Mott had three hits and three RBIs. Welten had a double and a single. Alexis Eggemeyer had a double and a stolen base. Wolff had a double and two RBIs. McCartney and Sulser each had an RBI and a stolen base.
The Chester Lady Jackets Softball Team played at home against Marissa in a non-conference game on Tuesday, March 15th. Chester lost 12-5.
The game started out even between both teams with a tie score of 1-1 heading into the third inning. Some good offense helped Marissa to score four runs in the third inning, putting them up 5-1 and giving them a lead that Chester was never able to catch. Lexie Mott pitched five innings, giving up six hits, six earned runs, with seven strikeouts, and two walks. Emma Eggemeyer relieved her, giving up five hits and four earned runs, with three strike outs and one walk.
Elaina Lutman went three for four with two runs scored. Lexie Mott went two for three with two doubles. Emma Eggemeyer batted one for three with a double and an RBI. Kourtney House and Kinsli McCartney each had an RBI of their own, as well. The Jackets finished with eight total hits, four walks, and five runs scored.
