Chester Rolls Over Warrensburg-Latham In First Round Of Playoffs

The Yellow Jackets football team cruised past Warrensburg-Latham 42-20 this past Saturday. With the win, the Yellow Jackets earned a home playoff game this upcoming Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Jackets’ offense got the ball to start the game. The offense got off to good start picking up 2 first downs. They were then stopped by the opposing defense and were forced to punt. On the punt, Warrensburg-Latham fumbled and it was recovered by the Yellow Jackets’ special team. The Yellow Jackets were then stopped on 3 downs. On 4th and 11, senior quarterback Nick Meyer completed a touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Keith Kiner. The 2-point conversion failed and the Jackets had a 6-0 lead.

Warrensburg then ran 2 plays on offense before fumbling the ball with 5:35 left in the first quarter. It took the offense just over a minute for Meyer and Kiner to connect for another touchdown. The 2-point conversion failed and the Yellow Jackets had a 12-0 lead to end the first quarter. Warrensburg started the second quarter off strong scoring a touchdown and kicking the pat to bring them within 5 points. The Yellow Jackets then struggled to get going on offense until Ethan Bert completed a pass to Meyer for 30 yards. Meyer then completed an 18-yard pass to junior Ethan Rayburn and the Jackets had a 1st and goal at the 1-yard line. On the next play, senior Drake Bollman punched the ball across the goal line for the score. Meyer then hurdles two defenders to make his way into the end zone and complete the 2 point conversion giving the Yellow Jackets a 20-7 lead. The Jackets led 20-7 at the half.

Warrensburg started out the second half with the ball. The had a 40-yard pass and an incompletion. Then they proceeded to throw for a 30-yard touchdown making the score 20-14 with 10:48 left in the third quarter. The ball was now back in the hands of the Yellow Jackets offense. Meyer completed a 53-yard pass to Kiner. He then threw a 37-yard touchdown pass to Bert to increase the lead to 26-14. Senior Erik Cowell intercepted the Cardinals pass with 5:49 left in the third quarter. Meyer then completed a 78-yard touchdown pass to Bert and completed the 2 point conversion to Kiner and the lead was now 34-14. One the next drive the defense held strong. Senior Tristin Hobeck strip-sacked the Cardinals quarterback and recovered it. The Yellow Jackets then ran the ball to end the 3rd quarter. The Yellow Jackets were then forced to punt. On defense, the Yellow Jackets forced a fumble, which was recovered by Meyer and returned for 30 yards. Bollman then ran for a 6-yard touchdown and the score was 42-14 with just under 10 minutes left. Latham scored a touchdown with 4:55 seconds left in the game to shrink the score to 42-20.
