For the last week of school before Christmas break, I decided to do an entire week of Christmas albums! I also decided to do six albums instead of three to really bring the Christmas spirit! Down below are all six albums with my thoughts regarding them:
Album #1: Fruitcake by Sabrina Carpenter
Favorite Song: A Nonsense Christmas
Notes: “Fruitcake” is such a versatile EP as it has its fun and witty songs but also has its slower and sometimes more traditional songs on it. Sabrina is such a charming and talented singer that both types of holiday music works for the album and her vocal range! I struggled picking between “A Nonsense Christmas” and “Cindy Lou Who” as my favorite song, but “A Nonsense Christmas” won because it is just so fun and iconic.
Album #2: A Very Laufey Holiday by Laufey
Favorite Song: Love to Keep Me Warm (Feat. Dodie)
Notes: I would classify Laufey’s music to have a jazzy feel to them and that becomes very prominent in this album! I love jazz and Laufey’s vocals make this a 10/10 album! I adored this album so much and definitely have many of the songs on repeat during the holiday season.
Album #3: A Very 1999 Christmas by Jschlatt
Favorite Song: Baby, It’s Cold Outside
Notes: Although this album only exists because it came to the artist as a funny idea, this truly was a great album. He has a wonderful and jazz-like voice that is very reminiscent to someone like Frank Sinatra. He has a lot of potential voice-wise and I think this album is a great listen!
Album #4: We Wish You The Merriest by Seth MacFarlane and Liz Gillies
Favorite Song: Frosty The Snowman
Notes: This album is very comedic by taking classics and putting their own spin on them, which also makes it very original. To add to the originality, they wrote some of their own songs to add to this album. The combination of their two voices makes a very fun and ear-pleasing experience while listening to this. I absolutely recommend this album and any of Seth MacFarlane’s other Christmas albums to all of you.
Album #5: Christmas & Chill by Ariana Grande
Favorite Song: December
Notes: I want to start this off by saying that female popstars are one of the best things to happen to the holiday music genre. I love how fun and cheerful this EP is! I enjoyed this one so much, especially the song titled “December.” The hyped-up feeling I get from it is just fantastic. Also, I would totally buy a sweater that looked like this album cover, it’s so simple but festive!
Album #6: Holiday by Earth, Wind & Fire
Favorite Song: December (Based on “September”)
Notes: This entire album is sung in a very 70s way, which is what is to be expected when a 70s band makes a Christmas album. And I don’t mean that in a bad way, although this is the weakest album on this list. I still enjoyed it and they covered a few songs that you don’t typically see other artists cover on their Christmas albums. It’s very different from others and sometimes it works but sometimes it doesn’t. I still liked it though and have saved some of the songs onto my playlist!
