Martin Luther King Jr. was born to Martin Luther King Sr and Alberta Williams King on January 15, 1929. Martin Luther King Jr. had experienced racial discrimination growing up in the 1930s, while also going through the Great Depression. Due to his skin color, King had to be separated from the white kids at school. When he was younger, Luther was a paperboy and he wanted to be a fireman when he was older. After graduating from college with a degree in sociology, King went on to be in a private college in Pennsylvania, where he had achieved a degree in theology. When he was still studying, Luther had met Coretta Scott at Boston’s Twelfth Baptist Church. Later on both Luther and Scott got married and had 4 kids together.
Martin Luther King Jr. is known for his “I Have A Dream” speech, which was to make sure everyone of all races had a dream for themselves and their future. He also talked about the Civil Rights Movement. Martin Luther King Jr. wanted the best for not only African Americans, but for everyone regardless of their skin color. King’s main goal in life was for everyone to have equal rights, no matter who you are. He was part of the reason why African Americans had the right to vote and to voice their opinions. He also helped the fight to end segregation.
Sadly, Martin Luther King Jr.’s time was cut short. On April 3, 1968 Martin Luther King Jr. had made a speech called “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop.” The next day, April 4, 1968, while standing on a balcony at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee with Rev. Samuel Kyles, Martin Luther King went to bend over the railing to talk to Rev. Jesse Jackson, and Martin Luther King Jr. was shot and had sadly passed away.
So in return, let’s take our time out of the day to remember Martin Luther King Jr. and what he did during his time.
Rest In Peace to Martin Luther King Jr.
