Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15th, 1929 to Martin Luther King Sr. and Alberta Williams King. Growing up, he had experienced racial discrimination in the 1930’s, during the Great Depression. Because of his skin color, King had to be separated from the white kids at school. While still being young, Luther was a paperboy, and he wanted to be a fireman when growing up. After graduating from college with a degree in sociology, he attended a private college in Pennsylvania, where he had achieved a degree in theology. While studying, Luther had met Coretta Scott at Boston’s Twelfth Baptist Church. Luther and Scott had married and had 4 kids together.
Martin Luther King Jr. is known for his “I Have A Dream” speech. His speech was to make sure everyone of all races had a dream for themselves and their future. He talked about the Civil Rights Movement. Martin Luther King Jr. wanted African American and anyone of color to be treated equally. Luther wanted to make sure no one was getting discriminated against because of their skin color. He was part of the reason why African Americans had a right to vote, had a right to voice their opinions and do things more freely when it was the time and more safely as time passed on.
He was an advocate for Black Americans and was there for them through the toughest times in America. He helped Black Americans feel safe in America. Sadly, his time was cut short.
Martin Luther King Jr. had made a speech called “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” on April 3rd, 1968. The next day, April 4, 1968, while standing on a balcony at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee with Rev. Samuel Kyles was shot in the face from across him and passed away.
So in return, let’s take our time to remember Martin Luther King Jr. and what he did during his time. Let’s take a moment to thank him for what he did in his life to make so many achievements.
Rest In Peace to Martin Luther King Jr.
