CHS held a Blood Drive, to collect blood for those in need on Wednesday, November 6. The National Honors Society was our sponsor for this event so a huge thank you to all the members who helped organize and plan out the day! Donors included CHS staff, students, and even community members.
In total, there were 35 units and 10 Type O units. We had 39 donors, 14 of whom were first time donors this year! Donors had the choice of donating a regular unit of blood or a Power Red, which means the donor gives two units of red blood cells while returning plasma and platelets. Patients who’ve experienced surgery or any major trauma normally receive a Power Red unit in order to achieve a quicker recovery.
To be eligible to sign up to donate, donors have to be at least sixteen years old and at least 110 pounds. 16-year-olds must submit a signed permission slip from their parents or guardians stating that they can donate.
As always, donors are encouraged to get a full nights sleep, eat a filling, healthy meal before and after giving blood, and finally stay hydrated. Once again, a huge thank you to our National Honor Society, their sponsors, as well as those who donated! We encourage people to donate to help those in need. With your help, we can make a difference!
