Chester High School is filled with extra pride this month as Senior Rylie Myers was awarded the Chancellor Scholarship from Southern Illinois University Carbondale on February 3rd.
The award was not delivered by a simple letter in the mail. Instead, Chancellor Austin A. Lane and other university officials personally visited Chester High School to hand-deliver the news. Myers was one of the 43 students selected for this honor out of a massive pool of applicants. The Chancellor’s tour visited 24 high schools in the Southern Illinois and Metro East regions to present the scholarships and congratulate the students who earned them.
The Chancellor Scholarship is as lucrative as it is prestigious. It covers on‑campus housing, tuition, food, and mandatory fees for four years at SIUC.
To be considered for this scholarship, students must have a 3.8 GPA or higher, a faculty recommendation, strong leadership skills, and community involvement.
By securing this funding, Myers can focus entirely on her academic pursuits at SIUC without the burden of student debt.
Congratulations, Rylie Myers — and to any underclassmen considering SIUC, this is a great scholarship to work toward.
