Chester opened regional play with a 61-47 win over Trico.

The game started out slow for both teams each scoring 11 points in the first quarter. Trico pulled ahead by only one point to take the lead 18-17 into the half. The two teams were evenly matched for three quarters, but Chester pulled ahead for good when Colin Wingerter drained a three-pointer at the third quarter buzzer. The Yellow Jackets dominated fourth quarter action to advance to Friday’s regional championship game. Keith Kiner III led the team in scoring with 18 followed by Colin Wingerter with 16.

Chester lost to West Frankfort 54-38 in the regional final game.

The Redbirds led 11-4 after the first quarter, holding Chester without a field goal until Reith drained a three-pointer at the buzzer.

West Frankfort extended the lead to 26-12 at the half.

Kiner led Chester with 22 points. Reith scored ten.
