March’s teacher of the month is Mrs Hankins. She teaches Physical science, Chemistry and Earth science.
When Hankin’s daughter was in fifth grade, they had already moved to four different states, which exposed her to the different types of school curricula. When her daughter was in seventh grade her math teacher told her that she would never be good at math. Hankins believes teachers should never tell their students to give up, so she decided to become a teacher herself. Hankins says the toughest part of being a teacher is the first year. She explains it’s difficult because you have to devote your time to preparing and figuring out what works and what doesn’t. Some of Hankin’s most memorable moments as a teacher are the field trips. She has been to many different places throughout her teaching career like the science center, the zoo, and an environmental science lab.
Hankins’s inspiration in life is her personal growth. She enjoys learning new things as she gets older and believes that you are never too old to learn. She also finds it inspirational to see her students mature and grow.
