I’m Serenity and I am the new student. I like to write poetry and I’m working on my own book right now. I think when I write I get to express myself a lot more because it is easier down on paper than it is from the mouth.
I Tried To Hold Tomorrow
I tried to hold tomorrow in my hands,
Like sand that slips between my skin.
I begged the stars to show their plans,
To tell me who I’d one day be within.
I watched the sky for signs at night,
For fate to whisper soft and clear,
But all I heard was quiet light
And every echo of my fear.
I feared that luck would pass me by,
That fortune lived for someone else,
That every dream I reached up high
Would slowly fall back on the shelf.
So many roads I could have taken,
So many lives I might have known,
And every choice I left unspoken
Felt like a seed I’d never sown.
But then I felt the beating truth
Inside my chest, alive and strong-
That destiny is not just proof
That we were right or we were wrong.
It’s every tear and every scar,
Every hope we dare to start.
Maybe the stars aren’t where we are-
Maybe they’re inside the heart.
