CHS Spanish Club boarded a bus and left promptly after the first bell to arrive in St. Louis on Monday, March 9, just in time for a 10:00 a.m. performance of Hispanic song and dance.
Many schools attended the event, and the small theater was packed. During the various songs and dances, students were encouraged to clap along and sway to the music.
The cultural performance ranged from traditional dances such as the Cuban salsa to English pop songs translated into Spanish. Performers made quick changes into a different vibrant costume for each dance.
At the end of the performance, each group received one ticket allowing one of their students to dance with the performers. Señora Zeiger chose Yami Fuentes to join the dancers. When asked what she thought of the experience, Yami said, “It was fun, but I couldn’t see anything besides the dancers.”
After the production, the Spanish Club went to Tequila’s for lunch. The students’ behavior was so exceptional that it prompted a Tequila’s customer to email Mr. Blechle, CHS principal, to compliment their manners. It’s safe to say the Spanish Club presented Chester well in public.
The day was an exciting and enriching experience for all students involved. Many Spanish Club members enjoyed the entertaining show, and the experience will be invaluable. Each student benefited from a beautiful sharing of another culture.
