Chester High School hosted athletes from 13 competing teams for a track meet on Tuesday, March 31 . Despite the stiff competition, the Yellowjackets secured numerous top finishes in both the girls and boys divisions with impressive performances across the board.
Chester’s jumpers set the bar for the day, claiming first in two events. Senior Gabe Coffman cleared a height of 6’0.75” to secure first place in high jump. On the long jump runway, Sophomore Danny Worley jumped 19 ‘6.75 ” to place first in long jump, and Junior TaShawn Palacio followed close behind in fourth with a jump of 18’ 6″.
Both the Yellowjackets boys and girls impressed in the pole vault. Senior Jesse Stumpe and Junior Lauren Cowell tied with a height of 8’0” for second place. Senior Ivan Hobbs placed third in pole vault with a height of 9’6”.
Chester continued to prove themselves in the running events. Sophomore Donnie Sabo placed second in both the 100 (12.07s) and 200 meter dash (23.64s). Junior Joella Eggemeyer also took second in both the 100 (13.87s) and the 200 meter dash (27.83s) for the Lady Jackets.
Gabe Coffman continued his winning streak in the 400 meter dash with a time of 52.26s, and TaShawn Palacio followed in third with a time of 54.73s.
In the 800 meter run, two Freshmen Jackets shone. Duncan Bargman placed sixth in the boys with a time of 2:25.86, and Katelynn Vallett placed fourth in girls with a time of 2:42.94.
The boys earned a first place win in the 4×100 relay, with a season best time of 44.63 seconds. The boys’ 4×400 relay was an extremely tough race, with the Jackets just barely finishing in second place with another season best time of 3:32.78.
In the 4×800, the Lady Jackets placed second by a lead of over 30 seconds, with their time of 12:15.63. The Lady Jackets placed 3rd in the 4×200, clocking a time of 1:59.26.
