April’s Teacher of the Month is Mrs. Durbin, who teaches Computer Concepts and Accounting I and II.
Mrs. Durbin got into teaching because of two of her high school teachers, Mrs. Stemberg and Mrs. Deterding. They both taught her valuable lessons in business and personal finance, which made Mrs. Durbin want to teach others what she had learned. Her first year teaching was rough, to say the least: she taught a sixth-grade class with 55 boys and only five girls. They were so unruly that she had to throw an entire bag of Laffy Taffy in the trash after she returned from vacation. Mrs. Durbin’s biggest regret in her teaching career is not being endorsed in social studies.
As of now, Mrs. Durbin has three children: Tucker, who is 5; Hayden, who is 2; and a baby Tanner, who is 3 months old. Since having children, Mrs. Durbin has made sure to spend only her contract time at school, which is 7:50–3:10.
Mrs. Durbin’s biggest inspiration is her children. She wants them to be the best versions of themselves.
