Chester hosted their annual Rocky Bridges Invitational Tuesday, April 21. The Yellowjacket boys won out of 12 competing teams and the ladies placed fourth. It was an exciting home meet for the Jackets, full of personal bests and top finishes across the board.
Senior Gabe Coffman cleared a height of 5’ 11” in high jump to place second, followed by Sophomore Danny Worley who cleared a height of 5’ 7” to place fifth. Worley continued to place second in long jump, leaping a distance of 20’ 5.75”. Another second place finish came from Junior Anthony Armenta in the triple jump (38’ 10.5”).
Junior Lauren Cowell managed to launch over a height of 7’ 6” in the women’s pole vault, claiming second. Junior Sam Hall had a triumphant day in the men’s pole vault, both reaching a personal best of 10’ 0” and winning the event.
Another win of the day came from Sophomore Paxton Beam, who threw the shot put a distance of 41’ 8”. Beam also placed third in the discus with a distance of 119’ 3”.
Sophomore Donnie Sabo once again won both the 100 and 200 meter dash. He ran the 100 meter dash in 11.4s, followed closely by Danny Worley who ran a personal best time of 11.8s. The Yellowjackets held the top two positions in the men’s 200 meter dash, Sabo won in 23.1s, and Gabe Coffman finished closely in second place, clocking a time of 23.5s, both personal bests. Coffman went on to run another personal best in the 800 meter run, finishing the race in second with a time of 2:00.6.
Senior Isaac Sims ran a personal best time of 5:08.0 in the mile, placing fourth. Freshman Katelynn Vallett placed third in the women’s mile, with her time of 6:08.0. Vallett also placed fourth in the 800 meter run, running a personal best time of 2:32.5.
The boys’ 800 meter sprint medley relay won the event, toting a time of 1:41.2. The girls’ 4×100 meter relay ran a season best time of 54.5s. Both the boys’ and girls’ 4×800 meter relays clocked impressive personal bests. The boys placed third (9:45.0), and the girls placed second (11:37.8). The girls’ 4×400 relay also placed second with a time of 4:44.1.
