On Saturday, April 13, three Chester High School students traveled to SIU Carbondale to compete in the IHSA Journalism Sectional Competition.

The three students, Melody Colonel, Chris Schwier, and Alison Venus, all placed second in their events. Melody and Alison competed in the Video News Broadcasting section, where the pair had to create a news segment about a press conference held on site. Chris competed in the Photography Storytelling category, where he had to take three pictures and tell the story behind them. Both entries finished second in their respective events. This is the first time in CHS history where 100% of the competitors advanced to state.

The state competition will be held in Bloomington on Friday, April 26.
