Trooper Josh Korando came to Chester High School Dec. 4 to talk about the dangers of distracted driving and other issues.
There are causes of traffic crashes / distracted driving such as rubbernecking, looking around, other passengers in the same car, and adjusting the radio. In fact, 3,328 drivers are killed because of adjusting the radio and 421,000 drivers were injured over distracted driving. The worst of them all is texting / talking on the phone; approximately 660,000 drivers are attempting to use their phones while behind the wheel of a car. Other types of driving that are not good driving include fatigue, drunk driving, aggressive driving, tailgating, flashing lights, rude gestures, stupidity, and improper lane usage. There are also weather conditions for driving like rain, hail, snow, ice, fog, animals and many many more. There is only one way to prevent most of these examples and it is to drive responsibly and to stay safe on the road.
He showed a video about a Benton girl who had a fatal accident while texting.
