Chester 3rd At Murphy Tourney

The Chester Yellow Jackets went 3-1 to capture third in the Ernie Bozarth Memorial Red Devil Tournament at Murphysboro.

In the first round of the Murphy tournament, Chester beat Lovejoy 51 to 39, with Ian Reith scoring 15 points, DeOndre Martin scoring 14 points, Matthew Korando scoring 8 points, Jared Landeros scoring 6 points, Jordan Hughes scoring 4 points, and finally Chett Andrews scoring 3 points.

The second round was much more heated in a game against Murphy. Chester unfortunately lost to Murphy 48 to 42, DeOndre Martin scored 18 points, with Jared Landeros scoring 11, Ian Reith scoring 10 points and recovering a total of 9 rebounds. During the first two quarters of the game, both teams scored back and forth making it a tied game during halftime. On the final stretch of the game, there were many fouls by both teams, totaling 30 free throws, 18 of which were Murphy’s and 12 of which were Chester’s. Matt Korando and Jared Landeros fouled out in the final quarter. This was a very intense and hard game for both teams.

On Friday night, Chester played against North Tech, winning by a score of 67-60. Deondre Martin led the team with 20 points, Ian Reith and Jared Landeros with 15 each, Aiden Jany with 10, Matt Korando with 5, and Jordan Hughes with 2. North Tech stayed close behind the Yellowjackets, but they put up a fight and got the win.

The final day of the tournament, Chester played Sparta for the 3rd or 4th place spot. Thankfully, Chester won 54-45. Ian Reith had 21 points, Jordan Hughes with 12, Deondre Martin with 10, Jared Landeros with 8, Nathan Heffernan with 2, and Aiden Jany with 1.

Ian Reith got All Tournament for the Chester Yellowjackets. Deondre Martin finished as the second highest scorer in the entire tourney, with a total of 62 points. Ian Reith got third highest scorer with 61 points total. The Yellowjackets are 4-1 and they play Tuesday against Vienna.
