Lady Jackets End Record-breaking Year

The Chester Lady Yellow Jackets saw their record-breaking season end with a 36-29 loss to Freeburg in the Columbia Regional championship game.

Chester (26-6) set a school record with 26 wins this season.

Freeburg jumped out to a 21-13 lead after the first quarter. Chester outscored Freeburg 16-15 over the final three quarters. Trailing 33-19 after three quarters, Chester went on a 10-2 run in the fourth quarter to close the margin to four points, 33-29, with 2:53 left in the game.  But Freeburg scored the game’s final three points to end Chester’s season.

Reese Chandler, who advanced to the sectionals in the three-point shooting contest, led Chester with eight points. Destiny Williams and Kendall Williams scored six points each. Trinity Brown had five points and nine rebounds. Alyssa Seymour scored four points.

Part of Chester’s record-breaking season was attained by Destiny Williams, who set the school’s scoring record with 1,831 points.

Chester advanced to the Columbia Regional championship game with a 50-38 win over DuQuoin on Feb. 11.

Chester was led by Destiny Williams with 16 points and four assists. Kendall Williams and Alyssa Seymour had 11 points each. Reese Chandler scored eight points and pulled down eight rebounds. Trinity Brown scored four points.
