The lights on W.O. Smith Field will be turned on for 20 minutes every Friday night at 8:20 (20:20) as a salute to the Chester High School Class of 2020.

People are invited to drive by but asked not to stop and congregate.

Chester High School and all Illinois schools have been shut down since March 16. Thursday marked a month since the last day of classes.

The current state stay-at-home order is in effect until April 30, although many expect that could be expanded through the current school year.

Classes are being conducted on-line through remote learning. Students who needed them were handed chromebooks to continue school work through the closure. A WiFi hot spot has been set up at the school cafeteria, Principal Melissa Meyer reported.

The NewWave Hotspot is located in the Professor Sharp Cafeteria and Entrance Lobby. Look for “NEWWAVE KEEPS AMERICA CONNECTED” when searching WiFi. The lobby is unlocked and students can use this to upload work.

Mrs. Meyer said tentative plans are to hold prom in July and graduation in August.
